Microsoft’s augmented reality headset, HoloLens, has come a bit more into focus, thanks to Microsoft technical evangelist Bruce Harris. Specifically, Harris revealed that the device will provide five to five-and-a-half hours of battery life when working on Word documents or email, and about two-and-a-half hours when used for computational work involving complex renderings. Harris also said that the AR device has “no option for a wired connection” and was “built to dissipate heat.”

All these new details appeared in a YouTube video posted by Israel-based wearables entrepreneur Niv Calederon that “was surfaced by Petri IT Knowledgebase,” says Mashable. The video is no longer up, but Harris has confirmed the details, including that the HoloLens can “connect to anything with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity, includes 3D audio and will only offer English support for the first version.”

Harris, addressing questions regarding the HoloLens’ field of view (FOV), said the experience is like having a 15-inch monitor about a foot from your face.

In December, Microsoft’s Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City allowed the public to test the HoloLens. But the price — $3,000 — makes the device more appealing to developers rather than end users. The HoloLens is slated to begin shipping to developers in Q1 2016.
