Meta Platforms is marketing its Quest catalog with the new monthly VR subscription game service Meta Quest+. For a monthly fee of $7.99 or $59.99 annually, Quest 2 and Quest Pro enthusiasts will gain access to two hand-picked VR titles per month that they can download and play through the life of their subscription. The “browse less and play more” approach aims to provide users an easy point of entry to explore the Meta Quest catalog. Available as of this week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the Quest+ pass Monday on Meta’s Instagram channel. Those who sign up through July 31 get their first month for $1.

Road to VR reports that Quest+ has been rumored for several months, with speculation focusing on “whether it would be a Viveport-style affair that allows you to pick from a pool of eligible games, or what they revealed today, a highly curated system like PS Plus,” although Sony’s PlayStation subscription service doesn’t offer VR games, notes TechCrunch.

When the $500 Quest 3 headset ships on September 27, Meta Quest+ will also be available for that platform, and the move is seen as a ramping up for demand in the fall (when the Quest 2 will be price-reduced to $300). “With a combination of VR’s biggest hits, hidden gems, and back-catalog classics, this is the most affordable way to grow your library,” Meta writes in a blog post.

Subscribers can cancel any time, and while they would then lose access to their redeemed games, previously ordered titles will be restored to the account if the subscription is renewed. The Meta Quest+ website showcases the first two months of titles.

Available to U.S. gamers 17 and over (18 or older elsewhere), household members can use the Quest’s App Sharing feature if they want to include younger players. “The subscription service marks Meta’s latest effort to generate recurring revenue from its Reality Labs unit, which is developing virtual reality and augmented reality technologies,” per CNBC.

“Thanks to its affordable price and standalone design, the Quest 2 is still the best VR headset we’ve ever tested and an excellent way to play the best VR games,” writes Tom’s Guide, noting Meta has built a library of more than 500 games.
