LG Plans to Demo Its New OLED and QNED TV Tech at CES
January 3, 2024
LG Electronics will showcase its latest television technologies at CES in Las Vegas next week, including its 2024 lineup of QNED and QNED Mini LED TVs with models up to 98 inches, and the company’s top-line M4 and G4 OLED TVs (more on those sets in tomorrow’s ETCentric). LG says the advanced graphics capabilities of faster AI processing will provide viewers with a brighter picture, smoother motion and superior, vibrant colors. The company also announced an upcoming soundbar lineup, featuring premium surround-sound devices specifically designed for its new OLED and QNED TVs for what LG describes as an “elevated home cinema experience.”
According to Digital Trends, artificial intelligence is “the active ingredient behind the [QNED] sets that continue to combine quantum dots with NanoCell technology in a space that sits just below LG’s OLED TVs.”
“That all starts with the α8 processor (pronounced ‘Alpha Eight’). LG says it has a 1.3x increase in AI performance over what it’s replacing, a 2.3x enhancement in graphics performance, and a raw processing speed that is 1.6x faster.”
The company claims the new AI processing can break down a scene to distinguish between individual faces, different objects, even backgrounds to help enrich “the texture and fine details to present images with unparalleled realism.” According to DT, “It does all that with ‘Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro,’ to analyze different sections in real time. But you’re still in the loop, too, with ‘Personalized Picture Wizard,’ so you can customize things how you want to watch them.”
“Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro splits the picture into blocks and analyzes each in real-time to detect the darkest and brightest areas, elevating the details with precise HDR optimization to deliver three-dimensional image quality,” explains the press release. “With Personalized Picture Wizard, users can effortlessly customize the image quality by simply selecting a few preferred images from a given selection that are intelligently set up through deep learning.”
In addition, AI Sound Pro offers virtual 9.1.2 surround sound from built-in speakers. “For a unified audio system, WOW Orchestra seamlessly integrates the LG Sound Bar and the TV’s speakers, resulting in a mesmerizing 3D sound experience,” notes the release.
The company’s “webOS smart TV platform lets users create their own profiles,” Tom’s Guide notes. “And the new QNED TVs are smart enough to differentiate between voices based on their profiles to offer personalized recommendations. You also get a slicker home UI for easier access to services, as well as support for both AirPlay and Chromecast.”
LG’s QNED models will come in 43, 50, 55, 65, 75, 86 and 98 inches. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced.
For those planning to attend CES 2024, LG will feature its home entertainment products at booth #16008 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. The ETCentric team will be reporting live from the show floor January 8-12.
