San Francisco-based optics company Solos has debuted its latest smart glasses, the Solos AirGo Vision, which offer a camera that takes photos and provides computer vision, and integrates OpenAI’s GPT-4o. The AirGo Vision can provide real-time information using visual input, recognizing people, objects and places, and providing information such as directions or instructions. Both the camera and AI functionality are hands-free, making the AirGo Vision “especially convenient for visual progress and next steps on activities like cooking, home improvement projects, education and studies, and even shopping,” the company explains.

The AirGo Vision also has built-in speakers and an LED notification system that can sync to one’s phone, making them competitive with the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which also feature a camera, speakers, notifications and Meta AI. Solos says AirGo Vision is the first to offer GPT-4o.

In addition to GPT-4o, “AirGo Vision can also utilize Anthropic’s Claude as well as Google Gemini. However, it’s unclear if either of those options can utilize the camera like GPT-4o can,” 9to5Google writes.

“These new AI smart glasses are like getting a second pair of ChatGPT-powered eyes,” suggests TechRadar.

But the AirGo’s camera will not be included with the base model, which starts at $250 and has only the speakers and LEDs. Pricing for the computer vision model has not been announced, even though the AirGo Visions — which Android Central says were unveiled at the Hong Kong Smart Glasses Summit — are said to begin shipping this month.

“Another noteworthy aspect of the hardware,” 9to5Google says of the AirGos is that like the other Solos designs they have a swappable frame system that “allows users to ditch the camera in certain settings if they’d like, or more easily switch between clear lenses and sunglasses.” Extra frames start at $89.

“Earlier this year, Solos AirGo 3 smart glasses received ChatGPT’s capabilities to translate speech to and from your language of choice via the glasses’ built-in microphone and speakers,” notes Android Central.
