Couchbase Capella AI Helps Deploy Agents, Models, Services
December 3, 2024
Couchbase, the publicly traded data platform for developers, has launched Capella AI Services with the aim of simplifying the process of developing and deploying agentic AI apps for enterprise clients. Capella AI joins the company’s flagship Couchbase Capella cloud data platform. AI offerings include model hosting, automated vectorization, unstructured data preprocessing and AI agent catalog services. Couchbase’s goal is to “allow organizations to prototype, build, test and deploy AI agents” while giving developers control over data across the development lifecycle, including secure data mitigation for large language models running outside the organization.
“Couchbase is looking to help solve an increasingly common problem for enterprise AI deployments. Namely how to get data closer to AI in as fast and as secure an approach as possible,” writes VentureBeat. “The announcement comes as organizations grapple with integrating AI into their existing applications while managing concerns about data privacy, operational complexity and development efficiency.”
Couchbase says its Capella AI Services will allow enterprises with lower latencies and reduced costs.
“As AI dramatically transforms applications, organizations need secure ways to integrate it and must handle the surge of data across diverse formats to build and deploy agentic applications with confidence,” Couchbase SVP of Product and Partners Matt McDonough said in an announcement.
“We’re helping customers through the broad spectrum of AI advances, from simple vector search to RAG chatbots and sophisticated agentic AI apps, and enabling them to deliver more personalized and contextual experiences while reducing development complexity and operational costs,” he added.
Capella AI Services include secure hosting of AI models and vectorization that “automates vector operations for efficient AI processing,” as well as AI functions to “simplify AI integration through SQL++ queries while the new agent catalog centralizes AI development resources and templates,” VentureBeat reports.
Capella AI aims to “help companies address some of the most pressing challenges they face during AI development and deployment,” according to SiliconANGLE, which adds that “AI agents are one of the hottest trends in AI at the moment, referring to intelligent applications that can automate actions and tasks on behalf of users with minimal supervision.”
Couchbase Capella “is the cloud-based version of the open-source Couchbase NoSQL database, and its main advantage compared to traditional databases like Oracle is that it can process both structured and unstructured information,” notes SiliconANGLE.
