Amazon Widens Call for Movie Projects with Concept Videos
June 28, 2013
Amazon Studios announced that it is expanding its call for original content to include short concept videos for development options. On the heels of green-lighting its first slate of shows, and launching its new Amazon Storyteller storyboarding tool, the studio is soliciting concept vids that offer compelling ideas for theatrical feature films. Filmmakers can submit videos up to 15 minutes in length in hopes of joining the studio’s film development slate.
Filmmakers now have the option of uploading an original full-length screenplay or a 2- to 15-minute concept video.
“The three-year-old studio will begin on Thursday to accept ‘concept videos’ as a way to submit an idea for a commercial theatrical feature film,” explains Variety. “The process works equivalently to Amazon’s script submission process under which creators can submit publicly or privately with a 45-day option and evaluation period. Creators of projects added to the development slate will receive a $10,000 payment.”
“We’re looking for great stories well told,” explains Amazon Studios. “Stories of any genre could be successful movies — artistically, commercially or both. They should have roles that could attract talented actors, and enough story appeal and visual possibilities to entice an experienced director.”
Amazon already has 26 film projects listed on its Development Slate page, ranging from comedies such as “I Think My Facebook Friend Is Dead” and “The 70-Year Itch” — to thrillers “Origin of A Species” and “Gideon’s Law — to the animated kids adventure film “For Sale By Superhero.”
As reported last month, Amazon Studios has greenlit five original series — including two comedies and three kids’ shows — after evaluating viewer feedback of the pilots. The series will be available via the Internet retailer’s subscription video service starting later this year.
