Blackmagic Design has released DaVinci Resolve 20 in public beta, touting 100 AI-centric improvements that aim to save time in a workflow. Among them is AI IntelliScript, which automatically generates a timeline using the transcribed audio in media clips and matching it to the script. From that, it constructs “a timeline of the best selected takes, with any alternative takes placed on additional tracks for editor review,” Blackmagic says. Another, AI MultiCam SmartSwitch, compiles a camera angle timeline based on who is speaking. Meanwhile, AI Audio Assistant puts what Blackmagic calls a “professional audio mix” just a click away.
A popular alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro, the new DaVinci Resolve also gets a feature called AI Set Extender that is similar to its competitor’s Generative Extend. AI Set Extender extends the image to fill any sized frame based on a text prompt.
“Highlight the area customers want to extend, and missing regions caused by limited clip angles, blanking, and cropping will be auto-generated. Customers can even create new backgrounds behind foreground objects,” Blackmagic explains in an announcement.
More generally, the cut and edit pages introduce a dedicated keyframe editor and voiceover palettes. “A new safe trimming mode to prevent crucial edits from being accidentally overwritten” while “a full audio mixer with pro-level loudness has also been added to the cut page,” reports PetaPixel.
Blackmagic Cloud adds cloud folders to let customers share material with collaborators. “All cloud content appears as virtual clips and folders until used in a project, after which it is synced locally,” Blackmagic says, noting it allows Cloud customers to provide access to “large amounts of media while keeping their media pool organized.”
“New caption tools include animated subtitles, which of course is all the rage on social media,” ProVideo Coalition observes, adding that “there are so many third-party tools to emulate what CapCut has been doing so it will be nice to be able to keep some of that within the application.”
DaVinci’s AI Music Editor cuts music to desired time and length. “You can set a specific time or use the Live Trim option to trim music to a specific length,” ProVideo notes. There is “an analysis process when you first enable this on the clip, but once it’s done, you can go to work.”
There is also an option to save and compare different versions. “When you’re done, decompose the AI music edit right in the timeline for your original clip music edited clip,” ProVideo reports, also highlighting “a new beat analysis tool.”
