CES 2013: Interactive Credit Card Enables Instant Rewards
January 10, 2013
Dynamics Inc. is showcasing a credit card “charge plus instant reward” solution that blends a multi-account credit card with a customer profile and purchase-tracking infrastructure. This enables Dynamics’ client companies to instantly offer personally relevant rewards to consumers when they make purchases. The battery-powered card allows users to securely choose from rewards using mechanized buttons on the card.
The highly flexible and durable ePlate credit card has a user interface that, in the top-of-line model, allows the owner to enter a password and access multiple credit card accounts. (The simpler model shown in the photo can toggle between two credit card accounts — labeled “Experience 1” and “Experience 2.”) The selected account is then programmed into the magnetic strip, which can be read by the existing installed base of credit card swipers. The purchase is processed through the normal Mastercard/Visa infrastructure.
Dynamics maintains a database of cardholder profiles. Their system notifies the appropriate Dynamics Inc. clients (potential clients include a team responsible for marketing a movie) when a relevant purchase is made. The client can then instantly offer a reward to the customer that is relevant to that customer’s profile, such as a movie ticket coupon, digital badge, or credit, via email, text, or other means.
The ePlate battery works for over 3 years without recharging. That is longer than the expiration period for many credit cards.
The ePlate payment device is backed by a $35 million round from Bain Capital Investment.
You can see the cards in person at the Dynamics Inc. booth in South Hall, #35967. The company’s press release has more information.
