CES 2013: Virtual Gifting with Vyzar Augmented Reality

Care enough to send something special, but don’t want to spend money on a physical gift? Virtual gifting might be the thing for you. The social network trend sees friends exchanging free 2D and 3D objects on Facebook and other sites. App developer Limitless Computing has come up with an animated gift protocol it calls Vyzar that allows users to overlay a veneer of augmented reality over existing video or stills.

If the video is live streaming from a camera, it interacts in real time. For example, Vyzar includes a custom weather engine that lets snow fall in 360 degrees when you rotate the device. “Your view will always change,” the company’s Erin Weller explained.

Weller said Limitless has a fully documented SDK and is interested in licensing to other virtual gift or augmented reality developers.  “It’s cross platform, and very simple, yet with no limit on the complexity of the virtual data,” she noted.

“Limitless can design and develop a custom application for your organization that runs on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch or Android devices,” explains the company’s site. “Our 3D and Augmented Reality engine, Vyzar, will be incorporated into your application as we work with you from development through deployment.”

See it at South Hall, booth #25813.
