CES: LG Debuts a Dual-Mode Bendable 5K2K Game Monitor
January 22, 2025
At CES 2025 this month, LG Electronics debuted its LG UltraGear OLED Bendable Gaming Monitor, positioning it as the world’s first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED display. The 45-inch 45GX990A can transition from completely flat to a 900R curvature within seconds, allowing users to customize their gaming experience. An upgraded Dual-Mode feature can switch easily between resolution and refresh rate presets, accommodating different aspect ratios and picture sizes. And the zippy 0.03ms (GtG) response time aims to provide heightened immersion. It did not go unnoticed at the show that the display also offers smart streaming options.
The 45GX950A is basically the same model but with a fixed screen. Both are “45-inch, 21:9 gaming monitors that feature 5K2K resolution (5,120 x 2,160), which LG says is a first for OLED monitors,” writes CEPro, noting that “the monitors’ 21:9 aspect ratio are intended to offer a more immersive gaming experience than standard 16:9 displays, while maintaining better content compatibility than 32:9 monitors.”
“From the world’s first 5K2K OLED gaming monitors with second-generation Dual-Mode to smart gaming monitors with built-in webOS [the LG UltraGear 39GX90SA] the GX9 lineup pushes the boundaries to deliver maximum value and enjoyment for our customers,” YS Lee, LG Media Entertainment Solution Company VP, said in an announcement.
All UltraGear GX9 series models feature curved display panels employing what LG calls its “advanced WOLED technology,” white OLED panels made by LG Display.
The LG UltraGear 39GX90SA “functions as a home entertainment hub, enabling users to access all their go-to streaming services without a PC or set-top box,” LG explains of the 39-inch, 21:9 aspect ratio curved (800R) OLED display.
A Tom’s Guide writer tried the bendable 5K2K OLED gaming monitor, flatly stating “it’s officially the screen of my dreams,” and calling it “the Swiss Army Knife of gaming monitors.”
In addition to a display that goes from flat to curved “in seconds, you can also swap between 5K and 2K resolution — with the former best for cinematic games like ‘God of War Ragnarök’ and the latter best for first-person shooters like ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,’” Tom’s enthuses. In all, the unit offers eight preset configurations.
The 45GX990A took home three CES 2025 Innovation Awards, including “Best of Innovation.”
