CES: Lightweight Asus Zenbook Laptop Takes on MacBook Air

The new Asus Zenbook A14 laptop leads the company’s Copilot+ line expansion. Powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor, Asus says its battery will last up to 32 hours. And at just 2.18 pounds, the “featherweight” device is drawing comparisons to Apple’s MacBook Air — but at a more affordable price. The Zenbook A14 will start at $1,099.99 when it hits the market later this month in gray with a base 8-core processor featuring 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD. The model sports a 14-inch OLED display with 1920×1200 resolution reaching 600 nits of peak brightness at 60Hz.

“Later in March, Asus will launch an even cheaper $899.99 model in beige that’s a little heavier at 2.4 pounds, with a slightly higher-end eight-core Snapdragon X Plus chip but only 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage — exclusively sold at Best Buy,” reports The Verge.

Further analysis of the comparison to Apple’s lightweight laptop reveals “the A14 can connect to up to three external monitors with its lid open, compared to the M3 MacBook Air’s two monitors while its lid is closed (though, keep in mind, one of those monitors will have to provide power to the Zenbook over USB-C),” The Verge writes, raising some “compatibility headaches” with “unsupported apps and games” running on the Qualcomm Windows Arm platform.

“For reference, the 13-inch MacBook Air weighs more than a half pound more at 2.7 pounds, despite being the lightest of the best laptops you can buy,” notes Digital Trends, adding that “it might not be the lightest laptop ever made, but for a modern 14-incher, it’s definitely breaking new territory.”

Digital Trends reports “the base Zenbook is getting upgraded to both Intel Core Series 2 and AMD Ryzen AI 300.”

At CES 2025, Asus has also unveiled new Vivobook 14/16 and Vivobook S14/S16 models powered by the Snapdragon X or X Elite processors, as detailed in a company press release.

Asus Vivobook 14 and 16, models X1407QA and X1607QA, are designed to be affordable, “putting Copilot+ PCs and practical design within the reach of everyone,” priced from $699.

The Asus Vivobook S14/S16, models S3407QA and S3607QA, start at $799 and has a number of AI-enabled apps and features. These include StoryCube, which automatically organizes files by content and uses facial recognition to group people and photos.

Real-time Live Captions “enhance communication by translating audio for over 40 languages into English,” Asus says.
