Razer introduced its latest plug-and-play webcam at CES, the Kiyo Pro Ultra, a $300 4K device that features AI-powered face-tracking and an HDR mode. The company claims its first 4K webcam touts the “largest image sensor ever used in a webcam” and promises “DSLR-like video quality.” The new device — which records 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps — has a dust cover similar to that of its predecessor, the Kiyo Pro, but Razer has introduced additional protection with a built-in physical privacy shutter. It has also added an omnidirectional microphone, which should help it compete in the webcam market.

“The Kiyo Pro Ultra uses a Sony 1/1.2-inch Starvis 2 sensor with a pixel size of 2.9 micrometers, and has a F/1.7 aperture lens to let in more light,” reports Tom’s Hardware. “It’s a large webcam — though, Razer was quick to point out, not as large as the Elgato Facecam Pro — but it features the same round, lens-focused design as its predecessor, the 1080p Kiyo Pro, one of the best webcams.”

“The Kiyo Pro Ultra can record 4K video at 30 fps, or 1080p video at 60 fps,” using a processor “to transcode it to 4K at a cinematic 25 fps, 1440 at 30 fps, or 1080p at 60 fps while streaming.” Since it does not record 4K at 60 fps, Elgato’s offering “remains the only webcam that can record in that resolution.”

However, Razer says its new webcam can capture uncompressed 4K 24 fps video, which competing webcams such as the Facecam Pro cannot do.

“Razer says the Pro Ultra beats the Logitech Brio and the newer Elgato Facecam Pro by delivering uncompressed 4K video at 24 fps or 1440p/30 fps, and it can capture 1080p at 60 fps or 30 fps with HDR,” notes The Verge, adding that “like many webcams these days, the Kiyo Pro Ultra was made to tempt creators away from buying a pricey DSLR camera. The Pro Ultra even looks like a DSLR lens.”
