NAB 2013: Dell Launches Automated Workstation Software
April 2, 2013
In advance of next week’s NAB show, Dell announced its Dell Precision Performance Optimizer (DPPO), a free download solution that simplifies, automates and optimizes Dell Precision workstation settings to maximize application performance. DPPO addresses the variations in processing requirements between different software and configures optimal settings for professional systems, manages system resources and tracks performance for future analysis.
Dell notes performance improvements of up to 57 percent. DPPO will be on display at NAB next week (April 8-11) in the StudioXperience booth (SL9610), sponsored by Intel.
“We’re excited to continue introducing innovative new solutions like Dell Precision Performance Optimizer that empower our customers with uncompromising performance, dependability and design,” said Efrain Rovira, executive director of Dell Precision. “From hardware design to software enhancements, we are always looking for new and meaningful ways to make our workstation customers more productive.”
When DPPO is opened, it shows past and current CPU memory storage and graphics utilization (see image above). The application features three primary sections: Profiles & Policies (including specific optimizations for ISV applications), System Maintenance (for tracking all updates from hardware to drivers to firmware) and Track & Analyze (for frequency and duration reports involving all subsystems).
“Different software developers leverage different hardware capabilities,” said Karl Paetzel, a marketing director for Dell. DPPO enables optimal system adjustment to “unlock the power” of hardware and software, Paetzel told ETCentric.
“DPPO is preloaded with profiles for popular applications such as Autodesk Maya, PTC Creo and Dassault SolidWorks and once activated automatically adjusts system settings to optimize performance,” notes the press release. “Additional features include proactive system maintenance and tracking and reporting of system utilization — helping Dell Precision customers enhance and speed up their design and render times.”
