Disney Celebrates 100 Years with Launch of TikTok Content

The Walt Disney Company is hosting a centennial bash on ByteDance-owned social video platform TikTok featuring custom content touching 48 of the studio’s iconic brands. Fans will be able to watch videos from across the Disney library, as well as create their own videos with Disney music and effects, play daily Disney trivia, and collect and trade “Character Cards” that will allow them to win unique profile frames. “We’re giving the passionate community of Disney enthusiasts on our platform a first-of-its-kind destination,” TikTok said of the celebratory “interactive experience.”

“With over 240 billion views across Disney’s portfolio of brands and experiences, TikTok has become a go-to destination for Disney fans to create, engage and connect around their favorite Disney films, shows, characters and experiences, so we’re thrilled to partner with them as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the company,” Disney Chief Brand Officer Asad Ayaz said in a TikTok newsroom post.

Disney-run TikTok accounts have more than 150 million followers so far, a number the social platform expects will grow during the promotion. Fans can “expect daily reminders” of the magic of Disney, TikTok says, anticipating a surge in user-generated Disney fan fare.

“For more than 100 years, Disney has been a leader in creative innovation and storytelling, so we are thrilled to continue that legacy with this first-of-its-kind experience,” Ayaz added. “For example, the #marvel universe has racked up 277 billion views on the platform and #encanto 31.8 billion views,” Deadline reports.

TechCrunch says Disney is also joining TikTok’s premium ad product, Pulse Premiere, announced in May. In this, Disney becomes part of a cadre of “other large publishers, including NBCU, Condé Nast, Dotdash Meredith, BuzzFeed and more” that offer brand-safe content as a context for advertising, enjoying profit participation as part of the bargain.

Disney brands featured in the promotion include Disney film, TV and theme parks, as well as fare from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, ESPN, National Geographic and more. TikTok is also “curating a special Disney100 Playlist featuring some of the most popular hits from the Disney catalog, including songs from Walt Disney Animation Studios classics” per Deadline.
