Instagram Launches Full Image Feed for Desktop Browsers

Facebook acquired Instagram in part because Instagram’s success on mobile challenged Facebook’s subpar mobile application. The purchase helped improve Facebook’s mobile presence, and now the social network has helped redesign Instagram to serve desktop audiences with the launch of a full newsfeed for browsers. Now Instagram joins Facebook as a complete Web entity.

Users still must upload photos from Instagram’s mobile application, but people can “see all of the photos posted from the users they follow, like photos by clicking them, and take advantage of inline commenting” on instagram.com, reports The Verge.

“Browse through pages of the most recent images to keep up on what’s happening with the people you follow in realtime,” suggests the Instagram blog. “And shrink your browser down to a single column for your feed to look more like your mobile feed. Simply put, we’ve brought a simple, powerful, and beautiful Instagram browsing experience to the Web.”

By limiting the ability to upload photos from the desktop version, Instagram emphasizes the website more as a browsing destination than a full-service stop. Instagram still wants users to upload photos on-the-go with its app.
