Netflix announced it is launching a “digital theme park” in early access on the Roblox online gaming platform. Web-based universe “Netflix Nextworld” will feature mini-games, easter eggs, watch parties, user-generated content and more “in 3D interactive spaces” based on characters and content from popular Netflix franchises such as “Stranger Things,” “One Piece,” “Cobra Kai” and the “Rebel Moon” movies. There will also be an activity based on the upcoming animated series, “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.” Users will be able to collect objects and wearables from the shows and movies to post in their Fan Pods, which can be shared online with friends.
“Once you enter Nextworld — which is your central hub in the Netflix universe — you can dive deeper into the series and films you love,” Netflix explains in a blog post. “Immersive games like ‘Stranger Things: Escape from Hawkins High,’ ‘One Piece: East Blue Brawls,’ and ‘Rebel Moon: Outskirts Battles’ will connect you with your favorite characters in a whole new way.”
According to Engadget, “there’s something called the Streamship, which is a shared space to watch Netflix content. The company says this ‘home base within Nextworld’ will provide ‘social features’ and include events like ‘premieres and viewing parties.’”
“Some of these games look pretty fleshed out,” notes Engadget. “Regular people can make some really cool stuff on Roblox, so a company with resources like Netflix should really raise the bar.”
“Roblox and Netflix have teamed up multiple times in the past, with the streaming platform having created its own group and world to promote various shows,” Game Rant points out.
The early access launch of Netflix Nextworld is currently available on game consoles that support Roblox, mobile, and PCs and Macs.
