NextGuide Has New Network Partners for TV Show Reminders

San Francisco-based TV guide startup Digit Media — the company behind the NextGuide personal TV watchlist service — has launched new partnerships with Fox, BBC America and truTV. As part of the deals, the networks will add a Reminder Button to their program websites. By clicking on the button, consumers can register for NextGuide and receive reminder alerts via email or the NextGuide iOS app, letting them know when new episodes are about to air on TV.

“The reminder buttons were already added to Web pages about more than 80 shows, and are now also prominently featured on the Fox.com homepage,” reports GigaOM. “NextGuide said in a release that it will soon announce eight additional network partners.”

“The buttons could be a win-win for both NextGuide and its network partners,” suggests the post. “Presence on the networks’ websites will obviously help NextGuide to get in front of many more users, and the premise of a reminder service is simple yet useful enough for people to actually sign up. Networks on the other hand will have a simple tool to get people to tune in live, and are able to direct viewers that miss the initial showing to repeats, or catch-up versions on its own website or services like Hulu.com.”

NextGuide’s Reminder Button is a widget that can be embedded in websites, mobile apps, and even display ads.

“While Dijit’s work to date have mostly been focused on reaching consumers, the Reminder Button is a B2B effort — and an ambitious one at that,” adds TechCrunch. “Its goal is to make the widget available pretty much anywhere a potential viewer my want to learn more about a show, and well, be reminded when the show airs.”

The service could also provide valuable information for the networks since certain data about usage will be shared, such as where and when shows are watched.

“NextGuide doesn’t just offer consumers links to live TV, but also lets them know when shows are available on Hulu and when they find their way to Netflix or other services,” explains GigaOM. “NextGuide users can even control their DVR through the service. Even anonymized and aggregated, that kind of detailed data could be a gold mine to networks who are trying to figure out where and when their audience is watching their shows.”
