NFL+ Boosts Prices as It Bundles with NFL Network, RedZone

The National Football League is raising the price of its streaming service, NFL+, now in year two, as live streams of the NFL Network and NFL RedZone cable channels are becoming part of the package. Cost of the premium plan will be $14.99 a month (or $99.99 per year), up 50 percent from $9.99, with the bundled NFL Network and its exclusive regular-season games, and fan-favorite RedZone, which carries live action from all Sunday afternoon games. A subscription to NFL+ with only the NFL Network added will increase 40 percent to $6.99 per month (or $49.99 per year), from $4.99. The changes will coincide with the start of the new season on September 10.

“We launched NFL+ last season to further grow our direct relationship with millions of fans. The response was excellent, and as we embark on the second season of NFL+ we are excited to add NFL Network and NFL RedZone and provide greater access to football content,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in an announcement.

NFL+ lets subscribers “stream live in-market Sunday afternoon games as well as national games in prime time on Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights, but only on their phone or tablet,” writes The Wall Street Journal, noting that “the league said the NFL Network games and RedZone would be available for NFL+ subscribers to access on any device, including their television.”

The update provides subscribers “an array of programming that comes close to the full complement of NFL action,” Deadline reports, explaining that post-season games are also available only on mobile devices as part of NFL+ connected-TV devices.

Out-of-market games are offered via the NFL Sunday Ticket, which will this year begin a multi-year run on Google’s YouTube TV (after concluding a 19-year run on DirecTV). Amazon began carrying “Thursday Night Football” last year, taking over from FOX.

The Athletic calls the expanded NFL+ package “huge news for NFL fans who have always dreamed of getting NFL RedZone and NFL Network direct to consumer,” pointing out that the shows are “also available with a subscription to DirectTV, YouTube TV and other streaming services.”

Deadline notes that both NFL Network and NFL RedZone “will continue to be distributed by MVPDs and across other platforms.”
