Nvidia Ups GeForce NOW Gaming Cloud to 1440p Streaming

Nvidia is updating its cloud-based GeForce NOW game platform with 1440p streaming, ultrawide resolution and, in lieu of a price increase, a 100-hour monthly playtime cap for new subscribers at the Priority tier (now called Performance), or Ultimate level, effective January 1. Existing Priority members will be automatically upgraded to Performance, which also lets members save in-game graphics settings across streaming sessions, including GeForce RTX features in supported titles. Ultimate members continue with RTX 4080-powered game performance of up to 4K resolution at 120 fps, or 1080p and 240 fps in Competitive mode.

The new member streaming cap of 100 hours per month “works out to around three hours of usage every day,” writes The Verge, citing Nvidia’s blog post that notes the ceiling “allows GeForce NOW to continue to provide unparalleled quality and speed — as well as short to no queue times — for all paid members, without increasing membership fees.”

The change will affect fewer than 6 percent of members, according to the company, which has added an option for 24-hour Day Passes, available now for 25 percent off, so players can try the Performance and Ultimate tiers for $3 or $6 per day. Monthly subscriptions are $10 and $20, respectively.

Nvidia GeForce NOW is a popular cloud gaming platform from the company that created the PC video processors that leveled up the gaming industry, then took it up a level by virtualizing the hardware in the cloud. It currently has more than 2,000 games in its game library.

“One unique element of GeForce NOW is that it is not an online store, but rather a service that gives gamers cloud streaming access to titles they already own via other digital storefronts like GOG, Epic Games Store, and Steam,” writes Game Rant, adding that “some Xbox Game Pass releases are also available to stream on Nvidia’s platform, with the catalog of titles constantly growing.”

In July, Microsoft’s Xbox.com added integration with GeForce NOW, letting gamers switch seamlessly between GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming on supported Xbox PC titles.

The unlimited play time parameter for existing paid members will only last through January 2026, Nvidia explains, using the unfettered access as a sign-up incentive.

“New members can lock in this feature by signing up for GeForce NOW before December 31, 2024” and “as long as a member’s account remains uninterrupted and in good standing, they’ll continue to receive unlimited playtime for all of 2025,” the company says.
