Roku’s 2025 Product Line Includes Smallest Streaming Sticks

Roku unveiled two new streaming sticks, an 85-inch Select Series TV, and a Pro Series model arriving with factory calibration. New discovery features include a “Coming Soon to Theaters” row on its user interface. The San Jose-based hardware firm also debuted two battery-powered security cameras and announced that it is expanding its TV line to include projectors. The entry level Roku Streaming Stick is compatible with any HD smart TV and comes with a voice-activated remote that provides backdrops and access to free content. The $40 Streaming Stick Plus has all that plus 4K support.

Both are billed as Roku’s smallest streaming sticks ever — “over 35 percent smaller than other brands” — making them portable enough to take anywhere, a feature Roku says, citing a February Roku/Harris poll indicating 74 percent of viewers want to be able to watch their favorite shows while traveling without having to log into a different device.

The Verge says “both devices are now efficient enough to be powered by the USB port on most TVs rather than requiring an outlet,” and are available for preorder now, with delivery starting on May 6 (replacing the Roku Express and Roku Express 4K Plus).

As Roku steps into “the new streaming-first era” it is “redefining what streaming can be,” company founder and CEO Anthony Wood said in an announcement from Wednesday’s New York City product event.

“The mid-range Plus Series is getting a big backlight boost in the form of Mini-LEDs,” Tom’s Guide reports, noting that “its predecessor offered local dimming functionality, but if you wanted Mini-LEDs, you had to spend up on the Pro Series.”

The Plus Series is also getting Roku Smart Picture Max, which automatically adjusts picture settings on a scene-by-scene basis, Roku explains in a blog post that explains the Pro Series will have custom factory calibration “ensuring a stunning picture right out of the box.”

Roku also revealed that “its Select Series — the brand’s entry-level LED TV — is getting a gigantic, 85-inch variant in 2025,” which Tom’s Guide suggests “was only a matter of time as the popularity of larger TV sizes continues to grow.”

ZDNet touts content discovery updates to Roku’s OS, including a “Coming Soon to Theaters” row that lets you save selections, a Sports Zone that can be personalized for favorite teams (even sending alerts for game time) and badges to identify award-winning films.

Roku updated its smart home line, adding two no-plug security cameras with 1080p HD full-color imaging.

The company said it has released a Roku TV Smart Projector reference design to TV partners, but provided no details.
