Samsung Demos 75-Inch E-Paper Display and AI Smart Signs
February 12, 2025
Samsung is showing off what it calls the “next generation of commercial displays” at the Integrated Systems Europe 2025 show in Barcelona. Included are a 115-inch, 4K Smart Signage screen designed to deliver “a new level of immersive visuals” and the Samsung Color E-Paper EMDX that goes up to 75 inches at 5K, uses digital ink and operates at 0.00W power when displaying static images. Both devices consume significantly less energy at their height of workload compared to traditional digital displays, a high priority for business customers.
Samsungs ultra-slim and lightweight e-paper design comes in four sizes: 13 inches (1,600 x 1,200); 25 inches (3,200 x 1,800); 32 inches QHD (2,560 x 1,440); and a 75-inch outdoor version in 5K (5,120 x 2,880) that is the world’s largest e-paper screen.
Samsung’s announcement from the ISE show details rechargeable 5000mAh batteries, two USB-C ports for charging and data transfer, 8GB of memory, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support for enhanced connectivity.
“E-Ink, or e-paper displays have been gaining ground in the past few years, as cost efficiencies have arrived in producing them,” TechRadar reports, noting that “though initially available in black and white, color e-paper displays are appearing more and more, in both consumer products and outdoor business advertising installations.”
AV Magazine points out that EMDX’s “dedicated mobile app allows users to remotely operate displays, schedule wake-up and sleep times and set playlists with predefined intervals” as well as “a feature exclusive to the Samsung Color E-Paper” that “optimizes content visibility for the display and includes a preview function to ensure content and color are accurate before deployment” via a proprietary algorithm.
Businesses are able to integrate their own solutions using the Linux-based Tizen Enterprise APIs developed by Samsung to interoperate with third-party content management systems.
Samsung’s super-sized Smart Sign builds on last year’s 105-inch QPDX 5K model and its 21:9 screen (optimized for video conferencing). The 115-inch QHFX Smart Sign has a 16:9 aspect ratio that supports up to four split-screen windows, making it “ideal for simultaneously showcasing multiple content streams” such as business meetings and public space displays in retail stores and elsewhere, Samsung says.
Samsung greeted guests at what AV Mag termed a “showstopping” ISE booth with a 462-inch installation of its branded media facade The Wall.
At the show, the company also touted SmartThings Pro, a “hyper-connected business-to-business (B2B) management platform” that leverages “enhanced AI and automation capabilities to improve operational efficiency,” according to Samsung.
The platform offers an Interactive View that uses AI to convert 2D floor plans into 3D images of business locales. The 3D visualization “makes it easier to understand and navigate spaces intuitively, enabling business operators to manage connected devices with ease,” the company explains.
