HP announced its Copilot+ mini PC and all-in-one desktop PCs at CES 2025 in Las Vegas last week. Rather than powering the new devices with Qualcomm chips, HP chose AMD’s Ryzen AI Max chips for the company’s new Z2 Mini G1a — the “world’s most powerful mini workstation” — and Intel Core Ultra 200V processors for the OmniStudio X all-in-one, described by some as a legitimate iMac Pro competitor. The Intel processors have enough power to support Microsoft Copilot+ PC features for the desktop, while the Z2 Mini G1a is also a Copilot+ PC, touting the AI-powered features, image generation, and editing tools available in Windows 11. Apple is planning to release a new low-cost MacBook laptop later this year that features a high-resolution 13-inch Retina display. The laptop will reportedly look much like the MacBook Air but with thinner bezels. Apple will target consumers looking for an affordable laptop and schools that purchase computers in bulk. The company is also expected to introduce a professional-focused upgrade to its Mac mini desktop, the macOS Mojave operating system, three new iPhones, Apple Watches with larger screens, and new versions of the iPad Pro tablet. Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference kicked off yesterday in San Jose, California. During his keynote, CEO Tim Cook noted that 5,300 developers from 75 countries were attending this year’s conference. Among the more noteworthy announcements, Apple shared information regarding its High Sierra macOS update; iOS 11 with improved Siri (including language translation), iMessage features, and Core ML to make machine learning easier; a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro (starting at $649, available next week); a beefed-up iMac Pro; a completely redesigned App Store; and an Echo-like smart speaker called HomePod (shipping in December for $349).
