Artificial voice startup Hume AI has had a busy Q4, introducing Voice Control, a no-code artificial speech interface that gives users control over 10 voice dimensions ranging from “assertiveness” to “buoyancy” and “nasality.” The company also debuted an interface that “creates emotionally intelligent voice interactions” with Anthropic’s foundation model Claude that has prompted one observer to ponder the possibility that keyboards will become a thing of the past when it comes to controlling computers. Both advances expand on Hume’s work with its own foundation model, Empathic Voice Interface 2 (EVI 2), which adds emotional timbre to AI voices. The HTC Vive virtual reality headset, priced at $799, just released and at least one review gives it a thumbs-up. Although the Vive didn’t get the high-profile attention afforded the Oculus Rift, which was released a week ago, consumers who try it are impressed, says one critic, who avers that it “certainly beats the Rift in terms of immersion.” A VR system is made up of numerous components and the Vive doesn’t compare favorably in every single one, but one reviewer says it’s on track to create an ecosystem beyond gaming. Apple’s new iPad Pro is the company’s biggest, priciest tablet and the first aimed squarely at enterprise users. The company says it’s pitting the iPad Pro against laptops, not other tablets, but it almost immediately draws comparisons with Microsoft’s Surface, that company’s business-focused tablet. Apple has not typically targeted the enterprise market, but this new focus is driven by the need to bolster revenues in light of declining iPhone revenues. Sales of the iPad have also declined since the 2013 peak of 71 million units. Continue reading Apple Goes After Enterprise With High-End, Pricier iPad Pro
