At TechCrunch Disrupt, Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone discussed changes including a kids’ profile redesign, more vertical videos, and integrating interactive and immersive features. The latter category includes a more immersive homepage, real-time polls and live party games, while the updated children’s profiles aim to simplify navigation. Viewing histories and watchlists for kids are now under a single My Netflix heading and recommendations will now refresh in real time. Netflix wants to make viewing a more memorable and interactive experience with Moments, a new mobile feature that makes it easy to save, relive and share favorite scenes from movies and series. Launching globally on iOS and coming soon to Android, Moments not only allows you to revisit pivotal plot points, but also lets you restart the film or episode right from that bookmark. Sharing Moments on Instagram, Facebook and other social platforms is reportedly just as easy. You can share a Moment as you create it or, from the My Netflix tab, you can select a scene and tap to share it across all of your platforms. Netflix is updating its mobile user interface to consolidate watch activity in one place. Rolling out for iOS now and Android in August, My Netflix is the new hub for watchlists, downloads and views in progress. The “one stop shop” also collects My List items, notifications, trailers and other content with which users have interacted, including TV shows or movies that have been validated with a subscriber’s thumbs-up. My Netflix replaces the Downloads section globally, and the streamer says the more users interact with it the more customized it will become.
