New York-based AI firm Runway has added 3D video camera controls to Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, giving users the ability to manipulate granular aspects of the scene they are generating using effects whether originating from text prompts, uploaded images or self-created video. Users can zoom in and out on a subject or scene, moving around an AI-generated character or form in 3D as if on a real set or actual location. The new feature, available now, lets creators “choose both the direction and intensity of how you move through your scenes for even more intention in every shot,” Runway explains. Microsoft is previewing GitHub Copilot for Azure in an ambitious expansion of its AI app development toolkit that some say could fundamentally change how developers build software for the AI era. The new premise is that switching from one software to another, as developers often do, should be seamless, not disruptive — sort of a real-time language translation and integration system for code. To fend off the move by Microsoft, AWS announced it is making its Q Developer AI code assistant available as an inline chat add-on accessible from IDEs like JetBrains and Microsoft’s own Visual Studio. The Federal Trade Commission has implemented a consumer “click-to-cancel” rule that requires sellers to make it as simple to cancel subscriptions or memberships as it was to sign up. The FTC vote was 3 to 2, along party lines, in favor of implementing the rule, which makes it easier to divest of unwanted, recurring bills. “Too often, businesses make people jump through endless hoops just to cancel a subscription,” said FTC Chair Lina Khan. “The FTC’s rule will end these tricks and traps, saving Americans time and money. Nobody should be stuck paying for a service they no longer want.” Continue reading FTC Adds Click-to-Cancel Provision to Negative Option Rule

Apple TV+ will be available as a $9.99 monthly add-on with Amazon Prime Video in the U.S., allowing users to use the service in one app with a single bill, the companies announced. The deal has the mutual upside of adding the cachet of award-winning Apple originals like “The Morning Show” and “Ted Lasso” to Amazon Prime, while getting Apple TV+ in front of Prime’s more than 100 million U.S. households. Apple doesn’t release specific subscriber numbers for Apple TV+, which has reportedly accrued about 25 million paid global subscribers since its 2019 launch. DirecTV has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Dish Network from EchoStar, realizing a long-time goal. The deal sees DirecTV paying Dish Network $1 for video distribution assets including Dish and Sling TV, and taking on $9.75 billion of Dish’s $20 billion in debt. The agreement does not include EchoStar’s wireless spectrum investments. Concurrently, AT&T has agreed to sell its 70 percent DirecTV stake to private equity firm TPG, which holds the other 30 percent. That deal is valued at $7.6 billion and is not contingent on the Dish acquisition, which is expected to close in Q4 2025. Combined, DirecTV and Dish will serve more than 18 million customers.
