Twitter Acquires Vine, Hopes To Spark More Video Sharing

Twitter recently acquired Vine, an easy-to-use new app that allows users to share six-second looping video creations with friends on social networks. “Instead of the standard video-sharing experience, you record videos by holding your finger on the screen. By lifting your finger, you can momentarily pause the recording, making it possible to create a miniature narrative out of multiple scenes,” explains Wired.

Even though Vine is now owned by Twitter, users don not need Twitter accounts to get started with the app. Vine can also connect to Facebook so users can share via the social network.

The video results often look like animated GIFs (the post include video examples). “With the six-second limit and stop-and-go recording, Vine is the closest thing to an ‘Instagram for video’ I’ve seen to date,” writes Alexandra Chang for Wired.

According to Chang, the app is still buggy at this point, but “it’s clear that Vine’s unique recording process, and specific six-second time limitation, is what will spark creative videos.”
