ZTE has launched what it calls the world’s first AI-powered, eyewear-free 5G 3D tablet, the Nubia Pad 3D II. The 12.1-inch LCD display supports 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the Nubia Pad 3D II is equipped with an AI eye-tracking engine that utilizes “high-speed visual sensors and eye-detection algorithms” to enhance response speed and enable accurate synchronization with the users’ eyes in real-time “for a more natural and realistic 3D display experience,” ZTE says. The device also converts 2D to 3D with Neovision 3D Anytime technology.
An 86-degree ultra-wide viewing angle lets users view 3D from varous angles around the screen. Symmetrical quad speakers that support DTS:X Ultra immersive 3D sound effects augment the audio-visual experience, according to ZTE’s announcement.
Digital Trends calls the first Nubia Pad 3D “impressive, if pricey,” and says for the Pad 3D II ZTE made glasses-free 3D “a particular focus for improvement, and a lot of work has gone into that particular area,” with the gen 2 model boasting “an 80 percent increase in resolution for 3D images and a 100 percent increase in 3D brightness, allowing the liquid crystal lenses to show off 3D images more clearly than before.”
What’s more, thanks to Neovision 3D Anytime, “you don’t need to worry about finding 3D content to enjoy on your new tablet,” Digital Trends says, explaining that the 2D to 3D conversion process works “at the touch of a button,” using an AI neural network to analyze “a 2D image, video, game, or any other piece of media and change it into 3D.”
“The tablet can convert 2D pictures or even streaming video into smooth 3D visuals,” writes PhoneArena, noting it provides “a more immersive experience from media and imagery otherwise sentenced to the boring 2-plane existence.”
The art of 3D image capture “is another AI-enhanced feature on the tablet,” PhoneArena reports, explaining that “Nubia has upgraded its dual-camera system to the ‘Super Biomimetic Eye’ level designed to mimic how the human eye sees and translates real-life imagery.” The Pad 3D II’s “optimal 3D shooting range is now 2.5 times wider when snapping 3D photos, shooting videos, or creating 3D promo materials.”
Founded in 1985, China-based ZTE is best known for its phones. “China Mobile plans to sell the device, but ZTE hasn’t yet announced pricing and availability” and “there’s no word if it will be sold outside of China,” says PCMag, which based on a demo described the 3D effect as “quite good.” Upon its debut at Mobile World Congress, the Nubia Pad 3D II, which runs on Android, was a Best in Show nominee.
